"First, Just What is Genius Hour?"
Genius Hour, sometimes known as "20% time", came about from the management at Google more than a decade ago. As the standard business model had always been to assign each employee a daily duty in order to meet the needs of the company, Google's leadership team decided to try a concept that pushed the bounds of corporate management. They decided to allow each of their employees 20% of their work time to pursue new ideas that interested them-as long as it benefited Google. For example, every Friday, employees were able to work on their own personal projects for the company, instead of their given assignments. Following suit, some other businesses have also integrated this revolutionary concept into the workday. Out of this came products such as Gmail and Google Maps! In fact, it has received so much popularity from its effectiveness, many schools have brought this idea to students in the form of "Genius Hour".
